Freshdesk is a cloud help desk from Freshworks covering ticketing, omnichannel support, automation, self-service knowledge bases and reporting. It competes directly with Zendesk on capability and wins most of its deals on cost, which makes it the usual answer for mid-market support teams doing the arithmetic.

What Freshdesk actually costs over a year

A monthly price is not the same thing as a monthly contract. These are the plans above resolved both ways, per seat or unit where the plan is charged that way. Where a vendor quotes only a yearly figure it is divided by twelve rather than left out, and the Quoted column says which figure the vendor actually publishes.

Which Freshdesk plan should you buy?

Your situationRecommendedWhy
A small support team needs email ticketing done properlyGrowth$19 per agent billed annually, including automations and a knowledge base.
You support several products or need custom rolesPro$55 per agent. A large step, bought for multi-product support and analytics.
You need audit logs, sandbox and skills-based routingEnterprise$89 per agent, and generally a compliance or scale requirement rather than a support one.
You want AI assistance for agentsBudget Freddy AI separately$29 per agent a month on top of any tier, which is more than the Growth plan itself. Price it deliberately.

You need the deepest integration ecosystemConsider Zendesk insteadZendesk's marketplace and app depth remain ahead.

Verdict by who you are

  • Mid-market support teamYes

Most of Zendesk's practical capability for noticeably less per agent, which is the entire proposition and it holds.

  • Company consolidating email, chat and phoneYes

Omnichannel in one product avoids stitching three vendors together.

  • Team wanting AI includedNo

Freddy AI is a $29 per-agent add-on. If AI assistance is central to your plan, the effective price more than doubles at the entry tier.

  • Enterprise with complex integration needsCompare first

Capable, but Zendesk's ecosystem is deeper if you depend on third-party apps.

Our assessment

Freshdesk does most of what Zendesk does for markedly less money, and for mid-market teams that is usually the whole decision. Growth at $19 per agent is a real help desk rather than a stripped entry tier, and the self-service portal is good enough to deflect meaningful volume. Where it gives ground is ecosystem depth, reporting flexibility and the polish of the agent experience, none of which matter much below a certain scale. The detail to watch is AI: Freddy Copilot is $29 per agent per month, which can exceed the cost of the underlying plan.

What works in Freshdesk

  • Substantially cheaper than Zendesk at comparable capability
  • Growth tier is a genuine help desk, not a token entry plan
  • Self-service portal and knowledge base are strong for the price
  • Freshservice sibling covers internal IT with the same account

What doesn't

  • Freddy AI is an add-on at $29 per agent, more than the entry plan
  • Reporting is less flexible than Zendesk Explore
  • Smaller integration marketplace
  • No free tier, unlike some smaller competitors

Freshdesk competitors and alternatives

Alternatives to Freshdesk
Alternative Why you might pick it instead
Zendesk More mature ecosystem and integrations, at roughly three times the price.
Help Scout Simpler and cheaper when a shared inbox is genuinely what you need.
Intercom Better for in-product messaging and proactive customer engagement.

Two products, two prices, and the $19 one is email only

Freshworks sells Freshdesk and Freshdesk Omni on separate pages, and the difference decides most comparisons. Growth at $19 an agent a month is described on its own page as launching AI-powered service “over email”. Chat, messaging and social live in Freshdesk Omni, whose Growth tier is $29.

TierFreshdesk, emailFreshdesk Omni, omnichannelZendesk
Entry$19 an agent$29 an agent$19, email and ticketing only
Mid$55 an agent$79 an agent$55, Suite Team
Upper$89 an agent$119 an agent$115, Suite Professional

All figures are per agent per month billed annually. Read across the entry row: Freshdesk Omni Growth at $29 an agent a month is the tier that compares with Zendesk Suite Team at $55, and it is roughly half the price. Comparing the $19 column against Zendesk’s Suite is the same error as comparing Zendesk’s $19 against anybody else’s full plan.

The AI position is better than the Copilot price suggests

Two different Freddy products, priced very differently:

  • Freddy AI Agent is included on every plan, with the first 500 sessions a month and further sessions at $49 per 100. That is the AI that answers customers, and it costs nothing extra until you pass 500 conversations a month.
  • Freddy AI Copilot is $29 an agent a month and assists your agents rather than replacing them. The pricing page lists it as an add-on on Pro and Enterprise, and not on Growth.

We previously recorded only the second of those and described AI here as costing more than the product, which understated it. Measured on included AI, Freshdesk is the most generous product in our support comparison: Intercom charges $0.99 an outcome from the first one, and Help Scout $0.75 a resolution.

Freshdesk or Freshservice?

Freshworks sells two similar products and buyers mix them up. Freshdesk is for external customer support. Freshservice is for internal IT service management, with incident, change and asset handling. If your requirement is an internal help desk, buy the other one.

Where it falls short

Reporting is the most common complaint: Explore in Zendesk is more flexible once you want unusual cuts of the data. The integration marketplace is smaller, which matters if you depend on a niche tool. And there is no free tier, so evaluation means a 14-day trial rather than running it in production first.

Desk research from Freshworks' own Freshdesk and Freshdesk Omni pricing pages, read on 20 August 2026 through a United States egress. Reading both was the point: the $19 plan and the omnichannel plan are on separate pages, and comparing the first against rivals' full plans is the mistake this catalogue made in its own cost model until now. Nobody here has used Freshdesk.
