Verdict by who you are

  • Academic or market researcherYes

The statistics are genuinely not available elsewhere. Against a research agency it is usually the cheaper way to run the same study repeatedly.

  • Large CX or HR functionYes

Programme management, text analytics and closed-loop follow-up are mature and hard to assemble.

  • Small business collecting feedbackNo

Vastly more platform than the question, with no published price to sanity-check.

  • Buyer on a timelineNo

Evaluation begins with a sales process, because nothing is published.

Our assessment

Qualtrics is the most capable survey and experience platform available, and for genuine research it earns that reputation: conjoint analysis, MaxDiff, quota management and text analytics are not features competitors have watered-down versions of, they are absent. Universities and large CX functions use it because nothing else does the statistics properly. The commercial experience is the problem. Nothing on the pricing page is priced, every product line ends in "Request Pricing", and contracts are annual and negotiated, so evaluating Qualtrics means entering a sales process without knowing whether the answer is five thousand dollars or five hundred thousand. For most organisations asking a few questions of customers, it is far more platform than the question requires.

What works in Qualtrics

  • Genuinely advanced statistics, including conjoint and MaxDiff
  • Text analytics on open-ended responses at scale
  • Mature employee engagement and CX programme tooling
  • Compliance and language support suitable for global research

What doesn't

  • No published pricing anywhere on the pricing page
  • Requires a sales process to learn any cost at all
  • Substantially more platform than most survey needs
  • Annual negotiated contracts with limited flexibility

Qualtrics competitors and alternatives

Alternatives to Qualtrics
Alternative Why you might pick it instead
SurveyMonkey Published pricing and adequate for most survey work.
Typeform Far better completion rates for customer-facing forms.
Google Forms Free and entirely sufficient for internal data collection.

We checked, and there are no prices

On 9 August 2026 we fetched qualtrics.com/pricing and found not a single figure. Every product line on the page, across customer experience, employee experience and research, ends with the same call to action: Request Pricing.

This is the second profile in our catalogue with that property, alongside Rippling, and it has the same consequences:

  • You cannot budget from public information
  • You cannot compare without entering a sales process
  • Any Qualtrics price quoted elsewhere is someone’s contract, not a published rate

There is a limited free account for basic surveys, which exists separately from the quoted products and is not what the enterprise platform means.

If knowing the cost matters to your evaluation timeline, SurveyMonkey publishes its ladder and will answer most survey requirements.

What genuinely justifies the platform

Statistics that competitors do not have. Conjoint analysis for working out which product attributes drive choice. MaxDiff for forcing meaningful preference ranking. Quota management so your sample matches a target population. Text analytics that categorise thousands of free-text answers.

If your work requires these, the comparison set is not SurveyMonkey and Typeform; it is Qualtrics and a research agency. Against an agency, Qualtrics is usually the cheaper way to run the same study repeatedly.

Where it is the wrong tool

Asking customers a few questions. Collecting event feedback. Running an internal poll. A pulse survey with five questions. For all of these, Qualtrics is a research platform being used as a form builder, and Typeform will get better completion rates for customer-facing questions while Google Forms costs nothing for internal ones.

The honest test: if you cannot name the statistical method you need, you probably do not need Qualtrics.

Qualtrics questions, answered

Is Qualtrics worth it?
Qualtrics is the most capable survey and experience platform available, and for genuine research it earns that reputation: conjoint analysis, MaxDiff, quota management and text analytics are not features competitors have
How much does Qualtrics cost?
Qualtrics does not publish prices. Its pricing page asks you to request a quote, so cost cannot be established without contacting sales.
Does Qualtrics have a free plan or free trial?
Qualtrics has a free plan. No free trial is offered.
What is the best Qualtrics alternative?
It depends on the job. SurveyMonkey: Published pricing and adequate for most survey work. Typeform: Far better completion rates for customer-facing forms. Google Forms: Free and entirely sufficient for internal data collection.
Can I self-host Qualtrics?
No. Qualtrics is a hosted service only, so your data lives on the vendor's infrastructure.
